Carolyn Ann Schulte, daughter of Olive L. Smith and Archie F. Dunkin was born in Portland, Indiana on Feb 25, 1933. Her family moved to Muncie, Indiana early in her life where she attended Burris High School. She attended Western College for Women in Oxford Ohio where she graduated in 1955. She was a teacher in South Phoenix till her marriage to William Hobart Schulte II. They were married in Muncie, Indiana on December 26, 1955 and moved to Reno for a short time, eventually settling back in Phoenix where she raised her family and pursued community work. She worked with the Girl Scouts, was PTA president at Kaibab Elementary School, a member of the Board of Phoenix Country Day School. She twice chaired the Visiting Nurse Service Auxillary book sale and served as president of the VNS Auxillary. One of her greatest passions was the Phoenix Art Museum. She volunteered as a docent, and was docent of the year. She decided to pursue studies in Art History at Arizona State University where she completed 35 hours towards her Master's degree. Carolyn was offered a position at the Phoenix Art Museum and she became the Tour Coordinator for 14 years until her retirement. In retirement Carolyn has enjoyed a life of leisure, travel and needle pointing. She has remained a member of the art museum docents focusing on European Art and the Costume Institute. She has been an avid contributor to the Phoenix Art Museum. She is predeceased by her parents and her late husband. Carolyn is survived by daughter, Joyce Lynne Schulte of Seattle, her son in law, Steven Poole of Seattle, her son William Hobart Schulte III of Phoenix and her step granddaughter Morgan Mason of Flagstaff, her honorary grandson, James Ian Kelleher of Amherst, MA and her beloved companion, with the china blue eyes, her cat Peaches. Services will be held at Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Rd., Scottsdale, AZ at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12th. Interment will take place at Greenwood Memory Lawn Mausoleum, Phoenix, AZ on Thursday, March 13th at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, you are invited to donate to the in Carolyn's honor.
