Obituary Condolences

Gibson, Margaret
a resident of Arizona for nearly four decades, passed away on March 19, 2014. She was born on November 4, 1918 in a rural Missouri community, and spent her early childhood on the family farm. She moved to Prescott in 1930, and graduated from the high school there. Margaret earned her degree in Education from the University of Arizona in 1940. Her husband, Wayne Gibson, also was an alumnus of the U of A. They married and moved to Phoenix in 1941. Wayne was one of the first Directors of the original Arizona Teachers Retirement System. He became the first Administrator of the Arizona State Retirement System in 1953, a post he held until his retirement in 1982. Margaret was employed as a reporter for Prescott and Phoenix newspapers during the years of World War II. In the later 1940's, she was employed in Public Relations, working in Communications for several organizations, including the State Health Department and the State Motor Transport Association. After her retirement she embarked on a new and most fulfilling "career' as a hospital volunteer. She gave more than 8500 hours of service at the Information Desk in a Phoenix hospital. Her husband preceded her in death in 1982, and their son Roger Gibson, passed away in 2003. Margaret was thankful for the gift of life and all the years she was granted to enjoy before her final days on this beautiful planet. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 3rd, 2014 beginning at 10:00am held at Greenwood Memory Lawn, 719 N. 27th Ave in Phoenix.
