Joyce Isobel Gallegos

Phoenix - Joyce Isobel Gallegos, 75, died peacefully on May 2, 2018 in Phoenix, AZ.

Joyce was born in Inverness, Scotland to Robert and Jessie Forbes. After graduating from nursing school in 1965 in London, England, she married Wendell Martin Taylor in 1966. A year later, they moved to Arkansas temporarily and then to New Jersey where she worked as a bookkeeper for a musical instrument company. From there they moved to Arizona, where Joyce pursued her nursing career. Two of their children, Scott Robert Taylor and Ross Graham Taylor passed away within months of birth. Then she gave birth to their only daughter, Heather Lee Taylor Wiest, in 1970. Her second marriage was in 1980 to George James Dvorak. After receiving addiction recovery help from Turning Point, she remained there on staff as a house mother. She became a Program Manager at Crossroads for Women in 1995. Through God's grace, she was able to help many women overcome and rebuild. After retirement, the final seventeen years of her life were spent happily married to Gilbert Gallegos.

Although Joyce lived in the US for 51 years, she never lost her adorable Scottish accent, which paired well with her fiery red hair. Her Cheshire cat smile was contagious and complimented her love for animals. She rescued and rehabilitated many a cat. Her schoolgirl giggle was quite unique and was known to spill out when joking with her husband or playing games with her granddaughters.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Gilbert; daughter, Heather (Jon Wiest); granddaughters Madeline Wiest and Mackenzie Wiest; brothers Graham Forbes and Eric Forbes; and sister Sheila Forbes. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Jessie; sons, Scott and Ross; and brother, Alan Forbes.

There will be a private family celebration of life and her ashes will be scattered around Seven Springs, Arizona per her request. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated in memory of Joyce Gallegos to Crossroads, Inc. 1700 E. Thomas Rd. Phoenix, AZ 85016 thecrossroadsinc.org

Beyond grateful to my amazing cousin, Sharon Forbes, and her beautiful family, for scattering my Moms ashes today during their hike up Mealfuarvonie, overlooking Loch Ness in the gorgeous Highlands of Scotland. Weve just got back an hour ago from our walk up Mealfuarvonie... it was amazing, such beautiful views & we scattered your mums ashes on the summit looking across Loch Ness towards Drumnadrochit. We played Amazing Grace by The Pipes & Drums of the Military Band of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards whilst Isabel read out the lyrics. We then listened to the song again sung by Judy Collins. It was very poignant & beautiful...We stopped before hand in Drumnadrochit & took some pics outside McLean Cottage where Dad & your Mum grew up.. all the while Isabel was looking out for the Loch Ness monster! Were so pleased & honoured to have been able to carry out Aunty Joyces wishes... shes in a very special place.
❤ We love you, Mom! ❤ XOXO

I remember the time you came with Aunty Jocye for a holiday in the U.K. (I believe that when the photo with the Drumnadochit sign was taken). I thought your mum was so sweet and a little exotic having come all the way from America! When we met up again more recently in your lovely home in Phoenix she hadn't changed a bit and I remember her smile and warmth she showed to me and my family!
We are thinking of you during this sad time - your faith is so evident in your posts and along with your memories, I'm sure it will help you in the weeks and months ahead..take care and look after yourselves..lots of love Yvonne, Jon, Lois, Connor & Ewan xx

Joyce:

I remember the great times we enjoyed after I met you in London. Your family and friends were so nice to me. That year with you was the best period of my life. Then, our beautiful daughter Heather was born. My Mom and Dad adored her. I know you were so proud of her as she grew up to be the fantastic person she is today.

May you rest peacefully now.
