Victor Rames Obituary
Victor Rames

Victor Rames, Sioux Falls, SD, died November 24, 2013, in Sioux Falls. He was 78.

Victor Allen Rames was born November 10, 1934, in Scotland, SD, to Theodore and Valeda (Danielson) Rames. He was raised in Olivet, SD. Following his graduation from Menno High School in 1953, Victor attended Southern State / USD. After completing his teaching degree, he taught school at Freeman, SD and joined the SD Army National Guard. He later went on to earn his master's degree. It was in Menno that he met his high school sweetheart Connie Kuhlmann.

Victor was united in marriage to Connie on August 11, 1957, at Menno, SD. The couple made their home in Freeman. In 1963, they moved to Sioux Falls, SD, where Victor began his teaching career at Patrick Henry Jr. High School in 8th grade science. During this time, he served as Scout Master for Zion Lutheran Troop #152, and taught summer school at Lincoln High School. Victor retired in 1998, after 42 years in the education field.

After retirement, Victor and Connie spent time with their grandchildren. The quintessential grandpa, Victor was actively involved in his grandchildren's activities, and was proud of each of them. In addition to attending their programs and activities, he loved taking them to area attractions. Connie passed away on August 25, 2011.

Victor was deeply committed to his faith. An active leader at Zion Lutheran Church, he was involved in almost every group, activity, function, and special event. In addition to being a member of Stephen Ministries, he was a member of the Siouxland Lions Club, National Science Teachers, SD Education Assoc., National Education Assoc., Retired Teachers Assoc., and was a board member of Main Street Living Television Ministry. Victor selflessly dedicated his life to others; family, faith, country, and community. He became a personal mentor to teachers and leaders of faith. He was a man that many could call friend. Blessed with an outgoing spirit of compassion, Victor's kindness and his robust laughter will be well missed.

Grateful for having shared his life are his sons, Charles Rames and his wife Kerri, Castro Valley, CA, David Rames and his wife Julie, Sioux Falls, SD; daughter, Carrie Johnson and her husband Mark, Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren, William, Matthew, Jessica, and Jonathon Rames, Alexandra and Rebecca Johnson; brothers, James Rames and his wife, Sidney, Omaha, NE, Jerry Rames and his wife, Jane, of Yankton, SD; and many other relatives and friends.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Main Street Living Television Ministry, 1400 S. Duluth Avenue, SFSD 57105.

Services to Celebrate Victor's Life will be held 11:00 am Saturday, November 30, at Zion Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from noon to 3:00, Friday afternoon at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Avenue, and will resume with family present at Zion Lutheran Church from 5:00 to 7:00 Friday evening. A prayer service will then begin at 7:00 pm.
