JONES, Belle BELLE WARD JONES Born October 8, 1930 Died March 7, 2014 at home surrounded by loved ones. Born and raised in Sanford, Florida, Belle never forgot her Sanford friends and regretted having to move to Daytona Beach, Florida after her father died. She attended Seabreeze High School in Daytona Beach for two years then graduated from Mainland High School. She won many beauty contests in Daytona Beach and later attended "Barbizon Modeling School" on Fifth Avenue in New York, NY. Being a "Southern Belle" she didn't like the cold winters and moved back to Florida. She married George W. Gorman after he graduated from the University of Florida. Mr. Gorman, a microbiologist, was employed by the CDC in Atlanta, Georgia where they lived and raised two children, a daughter and a son. It was an interesting life, moving around the country. An active community volunteer; Belle was very active in politics, she was especially proud of having given U. S. Senator Max Cleland his first political coffee when he first ran for public office. She and Dr. Jones opened and ran two medical clinics together for the indigent two nights a week for many years providing medical care while seeking other doctors and nurses to volunteer with them. They supplied all the medical supplies and medications for the clinics. They also provided Boy Scout physicals every summer at different camps for many years. Dr. Jones was a football team doctor for three football teams for many years so there were many games to attend on weekends. Many young men became friends and were helped financially through medical schools by the couple. After Dr. Jones died in 1995, Ms. Jones retired and moved to Marietta, Georgia to be near her daughter. She loved to travel and visited many countries.
