David BRAUN Obituary
BRAUN, David David Peacock Braun, September 30, 1992 - January 14, 2014. The name David means "Beloved." People who knew David well loved him. He was gentle; he was kind; he was loving. David tried to live a life respectful of nature. He felt that humans are part of the natural world and that animals are exploited, so he decided to become a vegetarian at age twelve, and he never touched meat afterward. He lived simply; he didn't care much about material things. Although David was gifted in many ways, he never wanted to flaunt his talent. He was passionate about music. He taught himself to play the guitar and became good at it. His University of Georgia roommates could often hear him playing his guitar and singing. David was in his third year on an academic scholarship at the University of Georgia, where he studied psychology and computer science. He worked hard to do well in his classes. When he had free time, he also enjoyed playing computer games. David played for many years on several soccer teams in Marietta and Athens. He was a skilled, graceful, and selfless soccer player. David was only twenty-one when he died, with much of his life unlived. The cause of his death is still unknown. David leaves behind his parents, Jon Braun and Harriet Peacock of Marietta, Georgia; his maternal grandmother, Neva Peacock, formerly of Plainfield, Georgia, and currently of Palmetto, Georgia; his paternal grandparents, Arnold and Renée Braun of Brevard, North Carolina; and uncles, aunts, and cousins. He was also the grandson of the late Carl Peacock of Plainfield, Georgia. Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, January 19, beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Marietta Funeral Home, at 915 Piedmont Road in Marietta, Georgia. The informal funeral service will begin at 4:00 p.m. at the same location. Instead of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Nature Conservancy of Georgia, an organization that buys and preserves land in its natural state. Gifts in David's name can be sent to the Nature Conservancy of Georgia, 100 Peachtree Street NW, Suite 2250, Atlanta, GA 30303, or made online at nature.org\georgia.
