Wilma Romaine Quarles Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

QUARLES, Wilma Romaine January 26, 1936 - August 2, 2013 After a full life of enjoyment and accomplishment Wilma Romaine Quarles passed away on August 2, 2013, following a massive stroke. A southerner for the past 34 years, Wilma was born in Philadelphia on January 26, 1936, graduated from Summit, NJ High School in 1953, and married Bill Romaine who died in 1970. With her oldest son enrolled at Georgia Tech she moved to Atlanta in 1979. As an administrative assistant she worked for several CEO's at Heery International, a prominent architectural and engineering firm. In addition to her regular assignments she proved to be a good sounding board for many of her colleagues. After a fulfilling career of 21 years she retired in March 2001. Prior to retirement she married Joseph V. Quarles III in 1998 and honeymooned in Australia. Sixteen days down under was just the ticket to kick-off memorable years of travel, vivacious camaraderie, and pleasant Atlanta living. Riverboat cruises, Alaska and the Galapagos Islands were among the high spots. On the home front she spruced up her townhouse and spent many hours in the garden with an assortment of colorful blooms which frequently attracted humming birds. Bridge was a weekly event, and for the past three years included a monthly evening game with a delightful group of masterful players. Wilma is survived by her loving husband Joe, two sisters, Sandi Cain of Palm Desert, CA, and Robin DeRogatis of Alpharetta, as well as her three sons David (Terry) of Winder, GA, Larry (Teryn) of Jacksonville, FL, and Stephen (Sheri) of Greensboro, NC. Additionally she had a lovely relationship with the Quarles daughters, Connie (Harry) of Eugene, OR, Catherine (Michael) of Minneapolis, MN, Caroline (Miles) of Portland, OR, and 14 grandchildren evenly divided between the two families, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on August 15 at 2:00 in the afternoon at Shallowford Presbyterian Church with a reception to follow at the Blue Ribbon Grill at 4006 LaVista Rd., Tucker, GA.
