GATELY, Charles F. Age 78, of Dennis, died Tuesday, August 4th at his home on Cape Cod. Chuck was born to the late Charles and Beatrice Gately on December 20, 1941, in Chelsea, MA. He grew up in Watertown, MA and graduated from St. Patrick's High School in 1959. He graduated from Lowell Tech College with a degree in Civil Engineering. Charles married Jacquelyn Skane in 1968, and they lived happily together for over 50 years and raised a family in Waltham, MA before retiring to Dennis in 2000. Chuck, or "Charlie", was a Civil Engineer for the town of Watertown and then Waltham for many years. His life was always in service of others. He was a Sergeant in the Coast Guard, an executive for the Mass. Chapter of Spina Bifida, and a coach for Special Olympics. Two of his sons passed away in his lifetime. One, Kevin, died in childbirth and the second, Christopher, was born with Spina Bifida and raised to a fruitful adulthood by Chuck and Jackie. Chuck was an avid golfer and skier. He was a former president and member of the Prospectors' Ski Club based in North Conway, NH for over 50 years. He golfed at many golf courses, but settled down to retire on Dennis Pines. Chuck is survived by his loving son and his wife, Jeffrey and Hilary Gately of Duxbury. He is also survived by his grandson Conor, and a great many other family members that he cherished. We are sure he is happy now at being reunited with the love of his life, Jackie, in Heaven. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made out to either Special Olympics or Cape-Abilities. With strict adherence to COVID-19 health precautions and social distancing rules, a viewing will be held from 4-8 P.M. on Monday Aug. 10th at Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home in SOUTH DENNIS. The Funeral Mass will be held at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, August 11th at Our Lady of the Cape Church in Brewster followed by a respectful indoor/outdoor safe distance collation at his home.
