Ann Dunkin Obituary
Ann M Dunkin, daughter of Lewis Everett Medlin and Fern Chidester Medlin, was born in Los Angeles, California on October 6, 1927 and died on November 3, 2013 in Asheville, North Carolina, after a long battle. Although born in California, Ann lived most of her life in the Chicago area. She is survived by her children David C Dunkin of Winnetka, Illinios, Pamela A Dunkin Baker of Asheville, North Carolina, and Jennifer J Dunkin, of San Diego, California. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael B Dunkin. She is also survived by her 6 grandchildren, Nathaniel Baker, Samuel Baker, Caileigh Dunkin, Christopher Dunkin, Janak Saxena and Joya Saxena. She is also survived by a brother, Lewis Everett Medlin Jr. and wife Jean of Waynesboro, Virginia, and several nieces and nephews. Ann was married for 24 years to James A Dunkin, an attorney with Baker & McKenzie law firm, who died in April 1977. Ann lived in the Chicago area (primarily Glenview) from her high school years until 2009, when she moved to North Carolina to be closer to her daughter Pamela. She attended Evanston High School, Coe College, and the University of Iowa before marrying and returning to Chicago. She loved Girl Scouting and was a Girl Scout leader for many years. She was active in the Glenview Garden Club, loved working in retail, and in her retirement years, enjoyed volunteering at Evanston and Glenbrook Hospitals. She was beloved for her remarkable sense of humor and was her children's biggest fans and delighted in their successes. She was a wonderful friend, mother, grandmother, and wife. She was the anchor for all of us and will be very, very missed. A memorial will be held at N.H. Scott & Hanekamp Funeral Home (847-998-1020), 1240 Waukegan Road, Glenview, Illinois, on Saturday, November 16, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the , Givens Estates Resident Assistance Fund, 2360 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, NC. 28803, or to CarePartners Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC. 28813 in Ann's memory will be greatly appreciated.
