Charles A. Conrad, Jr., age 87, Retired Battalion Chief, Chicago Fire Department (CFD), 48 yr. member of IAFF Local 2 and retired Ironworker Local 63, passed away April 3, 2014 in Stuart, Florida. Beloved husband of the late Mary Ann (nee Richter), devoted father of Elaine (William Moorman) and Roseann (Jesse Katz), devoted grandfather of Mary Conrad and Adam Piotrowski, and great-grandfather to Aramis Valencia, fond brother of Edward, Lorraine, William (deceased), and Frank. Charles was a dedicated member of the CFD who started as a firefighter and was promoted through the ranks to Battalion Chief. He had a passion for the firefighting and fire prevention and worked tirelessly to educate and assist those who worked with him as well as for him. He and the love of his life, MaryAnn, raised a wonderful family and those who knew him were all touched by his devotion to his wife, his family, his faith and his other passion later in life - woodworking. Funeral Saturday June 14, 2014 family and friends are to gather at 9:00 am at RUSSO'S HILLSIDE CHAPELS, 4500 ROOSEVELT ROAD, HILLSIDE, IL 60162 (between Mannheim and Wolf Road) for a chapel service to celebrate and memorialize his life. Service will begin promptly at 10:00 am. Internment to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside, Il. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 13, 2014 from 3:00 pm - 9:00 pm.
