John Heinz Jr. Obituary
Aug. 21, 1937 to May 1, 2014 John was the first child born to Dr. John L. Heinz, Sr. and Vita Greco on August 21, 1937, in Chicago. He attended Mendel Catholic High School in Chicago and St. Augustine Seminary in Holland, Michigan. He attended Purdue University prior to joining the US Army Infantry and then serving in the US Air Force at Clark Air Base in the Philippines as a dental tech. He finished his college degree at Governors State University in Chicago. During his career with the Veterans Administration, John worked with Senator Barack Obama's Constituent Liaison, Rahm Emanuel, assisting veterans to access their benefits. He was in the Army Reserve JAG unit concurrently while working at the Veterans Administration. While at Alden and Providence Rehab Centers, John made friends easily. He was a foreign sports car enthusiast and owned several German and British-made sports cars over the years. John is survived by his brother Edward A. Heinz of Colorado, sister Nannette Stone of Texas; nephews Dr. Dieter Heinz of Minnesota and Ammaron Stone of Texas; niece Sariah (Stone) Fuller of Texas; and Dave Walters, close friend and colleague. There will be Air Force honors at internment at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois, on Monday, May 19, 2014 at 10:30 a.m.
