Kenji Hino Obituary
Kenji Hino was born on December 7, 1915 on North Clark Street. He attended the Ray School and Hyde Park High School. He received a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois and an MS from University of Wisconsin. He served with honor in the famed 442nd Regimental Combat Team in Italy and France. He received a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star, and a battlefield commission as a 2nd Lieutenant. He retired in 1971 as a full Colonel, at the time the highest ranking Nisei officer in the US Army. In 2011, the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, the 100th Battalion, and MIS were awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for their service during WWII. At the age of 95, he proudly traveled to Washington D.C. to receive the award. He is predeceased by his beloved wife Elsbeth. Surviving are his five children and seven grandchildren. Burial will be held at Arlington Cemetery.
