Paul Francis Ziegler Jr. Obituary
Ziegler Jr., Paul Francis Paul Francis Ziegler, Jr. (1929-2014) died in his sleep on February 4 in Sedona, AZ after a long battle with prostate cancer. Paul, also known as "Bo," was born in Evanston, IL on September 7, 1929. He attended New Trier High School, and Northwestern University before graduating from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana in metallurgical engineering. After serving in the Air Force in 1952-53 and rising to the rank of first lieutenant, he married Dona Marie Lotka on December 1, 1956. Paul worked for many years at the Fansteel Corporation as a metallurgist, eventually reaching the level of Vice-President. He developed alloys for the aerospace industry, including the Apollo 11 moon-landing mission. After his time at Fansteel, Paul served as a consultant for foreign governments and businesses and travelled extensively to the Far East. Paul and Dona moved to Sedona in 1999 to spend their retirement years. Paul was known as an excellent golfer, often in his later years "shooting his age." He had three holes-in-one of which he was proud. He was an avid reader, and a master of the Weber Bar-B-Q. Most importantly, Paul had an uncommon grace, kindness and dignity that touched many peoples' lives. A naturally humble man, he led by the fine example he set in his daily life. Paul was predeceased by his son, James Ziegler. He is survived by his wife, Dona; daughter, Carolyn Ziegler Wilson; son, Jeffrey Ziegler; and grandchildren, Zachary, Katie, Rita and Barrett. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Sedona Fire District Station 3, 2860 Southwest Drive, Sedona, AZ 86336 or Prostate Cancer Foundation www.pcf.org. A private memorial was held in Sedona on February 9.
