Eleanor Simpson Obituary
ELEANOR SIMPSON Eleanor (Ellie) Simpson died peacefully in Galt, California, on July 15, 2018. She was 102 years old and loved every minute of it. As she often said, "her sister had all the brains and she had all the fun!" Ellie was born on May 4, 1916 in Brantford, Ontario, Canada to Lloyd Delos and Gertrude Margaret Barber. Ellie attended schools in Brantford and Long Beach, California and was certified at the California School of Commerce in Chico, California were she met and fell in love with her husband, Ziba. After she and Ziba were married, they lived in Chico; Butte, Montana, and later Orland. She worked for many years as an eye technician in Chico. Ellie and her husband moved to a beautiful heavily wooded hillside in Magalia, California naming it "Souhing Pines". They eventually moved to Feather Canyon Retirement Community in Paradise meeting many friends and wonderful people. Ellie and Ziba were avid campers, enjoying more than anything the peace and quiet of a babbling brook and the crackling of a camp fire in the sierras while watching a spectacular sunrise, the sound of the wind in the pines at their remote camp site or home, and the sounds and smells of the ocean from the cliffs of the Pacific and its redwood forests. In later years, Ellie enjoyed the camaraderie of her friends and various competitions at Feather Canyon and the thrill of victory when it finally came! Ellie was preceded in death by her husband Ziba Henry Simpson, son Eric Lindsay Simpson and sister Margaret Catheryn Barber Greer. She is survived by her nephews, Timothy E. Greer of Eldorado, California and Michael L. Greer (Linda) of Galt, California, many cousins in Ontario and Saskatchewan, Canada. At her request, there will be no services. Donations may be may be made to the Sierra Club or . Assistance was provided by Chapel of the Pines, Paradise, California.
