1918 - 2013 Obituary Condolences


Helen Jane (nee Lyle), 95, passed away peacefully at home in Springdale, Ohio, Tuesday, October 29th, 2013. She was born in Fairbury, Illinois on May 30th, 1918 to James Edwin Lyle and Carrie Jacobson Lyle. She graduated from Carleton College, Minnesota in 1939 and received a Fellowship to study economics in graduate school at Northwestern University, Illinois. Helen Jane, also fondly known as Susan, gave active support to the WWII effort as a homemaker caring for three sons while her husband, William (Bill) Nez Cheek, served in the Navy as a 1st Lieutenant in the Pacific. She was an avid reader, enjoyed music: classical, Ella, the Beatles, was a friend to all pets, and became a marvelous cook a la Julia Child. Additionally, she was deeply committed to working on behalf of politicians, charitable fundraisers, as an organizer of community concerts, and in leadership roles for her children's school PTAs and hospital Women's Boards in Kenosha, WI and Akron, Ohio. Until their retirement, she worked with her husband at their company, Resource Publishers of Cincinnati, Ohio, publisher of children's books. Susan was predeceased by her husband William (Bill), daughter in law Rose and her three brothers, Paul, James (Jim) and Robert (Buss) Lyle. She will be deeply missed by her 8 children and their spouses, William (Rose d.), Thomas (Francess), Robert (Stephanie), Karhn (Stephen), Sarah (Paul), Richard, Christopher and Todd, 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, dear nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Humane Society or a . The family wishes to thank Hospice of Cincinnati, and gratitude to Harriet Jefferson for her gentle care of "Miss Helen". A private memorial service will be held Thursday, November 7th at Spring Grove where the immediate family only will gather together to celebrate the loving life of their mother & grandmother.
