George Scott Obituary
George Edward "Ed" Scott

Marshall, NC - George Edward "Ed" Scott, 83, of Marshall, passed away Friday, June 27, 2014 at the John F. Keever Solace Center.

Mr. Scott was born March 21, 1931 in Asheville, NC.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Edward Scott and Mildred Whitlow Scott; and a sister, Susan Beverly Scott Taylor.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Lora Kinsinger Scott; daughter, Margaret Scott; son, George Scott; daughter-in-law, Sarah Scott; grandchildren: Sam and Sophie Scott; aunt, Sarah Scott Glasgow; and a nephew, William Alec Taylor.

With degrees from Warren Wilson College High School, Maryville College, and the University of Virginia, Scott taught philosophy at the University of Georgia, Ithaca College, and Warren Wilson College.

In 1974 the Scott family moved to an old farm in Madison County, where Ed, always a lover of these mountains, zealously maintained fields, trails, livestock fences, farm buildings and equipment. An active motorcyclist and mechanic for many years, he was also an active singer, first with the Ithaca Opera Company, and later in solo and ensemble recitals given at Warren Wilson College, often accompanied by his wife, including a performance of Schubert's Winterreise, commemorating the 150th anniversary of Schubert's death.

He was known as a good, kind man, who was fun and warm, and always helping others. Teaching colleagues admired his high intelligence, insight, and wit. Many who knew him were aware of his fondness for dark chocolate, black coffee and hot Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

A Celebration of Life Service with Reception will be held Saturday, August 30, at 10:30, at Warren Wilson Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Asheville Area Piano Forum's Student Assistance Program, AAPF, C/O AAPF Treasurer, 6 Mayfair Place, Arden, NC 28704 or the CarePartners Solace Center, 68 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28803.
