Stephen Paul Ellis Obituary
Stephen Paul

Weaverville - Stephen Paul Ellis passed from this world on December 12, 2013 after a brief battle of cancer.

Steve was born in Columbus, Georgia on February 16, 1943. His early years were spent in Orlando, Florida where he rode horses and raised rabbits and chickens and did all the things an adventurous boy does. He moved to Las Vegas his senior year in high school with his mother and step-father. After graduation, he joined the navy and was stationed in Japan. The adventures there provided him with entertaining stories he loved to share. He returned to Orlando when he was discharged. There he met and married Nan Stradley and moved to Titusville, Florida where they lived and raised their family until they retired and moved to Asheville, N.C.

After Nan passed away from ovarian cancer, Steve moved to Weaverville, N.C. and tried to perfect the game of golf. He met and married Karen Calloway and they moved to the Reems Creek Golf Community where he continued with his golf game and took up substitute teaching which he said kept him young.

He leaves behind his wife Karen, son, Joseph Ellis and wife Susan, and daughter Melissa Braswell. He also leaves behind grandchildren, Elliot, Deven, and Argyle Ellis, Charlotte Braswell, and Gibson Calloway and many friends that filled him with cheer.

A memorial service and celebration of Steve's life will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, December 16, 2013 at Morris Funeral Home, 304 Merrimon Avenue with Reverend Buddy Corbin officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Care Partners Hospice Foundation, John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center, PO Box 5779, Asheville, NC. 28813.

Morris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be sent through the website
