Barbara Lois Shapiro Greenberg

Barbara Lois Shapiro Greenberg of Kingston died Sunday morning, April 14, 2019, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in New York City she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Evelyn Marrus Shapiro and was a graduate of Meyers High School and Rider University, N.J., and worked as an insurance underwriter.

She was a member of Temple Israel, its sisterhood, Hadassah, the JCA, past national president of the Jewish War Veterans Auxiliary and longtime member of Wyoming Valley Chevra Kadisha. Barbara volunteered for decades at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, was an avid reader; enjoyed knitting and spending time with grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Marvin Shapiro.

She is survived by her husband, Sam Greenberg; children, Renee (Scott) Buckler, Montville, N.J; Gary (Cheri) Greenberg, Kingston; Sheri (Eric) Gelvar, Baltimore, Md.; 10 grandchildren, Max, Elli, Nathan, Charlene, Adam, Evan, Atoosa, Cody, Jake and Evy; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at noon Tuesday from Rosenberg Funeral Chapel Inc., 348 S. River St., Wilkes-Barre, with Rabbi Larry Kaplan officiating.

Interment will follow in Temple Israel Cemetery, Swoyersville.

Shiva will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Temple Israel, 239 S. River St., Wilkes-Barre.

Memorial donations may be made to Crohn's and Colitis Foundation, c/o Sheri Gelvar, 112 Hawthorne Ave., Baltimore, MD 21208, and National Museum of American Jewish Military History, 1811 R Street NW, Washington, D.C., 20009.
