Charles A. Finane died Saturday, April 20, 2013, at his home in Raymond, MS. He was 92. Born in Vicksburg on August 27, 1920, he was the son of the late Edward A. Finane, Sr. and Norma Lillian Gulde Finane.

At the time of his death, Charlie was the oldest active licensed funeral director and embalmer in Mississippi. He was a graduate of St. Aloysius High School in the Class of 1939. He was a charter member of Boy Scout Troop 7 sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, Council 898 of Vicksburg. Charlie was employed in 1939 by Guion-Theobald Funeral Home in Vicksburg was later affiliated with Fisher Funeral Home in Vicksburg.

He served in World War II in the Army Medical Corps, 160th Army Field General Hospital serving 23 months in the European Theatre of War. He was later called to active duty during the Korean War receiving the rank of Master Sergeant.

Charlie graduated from the Landig College of Mortuary Science in Houston, Texas with a diploma as a Professional Embalmer in the Class of 1947. During his career in funeral service he was associated with Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg from 1955 to 1969 and Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Jackson, MS from 1969 to 2002. He had been affiliated with Riles Funeral Home in Vicksburg since 2002 and in recent years was named Funeral Director Emeritus.

Charlie was a long time communicant of the Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle in Jackson. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus and a former Faithful Navigator of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He was a senior member of the Vicksburg Kiwanis Club and a long time member of the Mississippi Funeral Directors Association.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Frances Jones Finane; a sister: Flora F. Lyle and 5 brothers, Otto, Edward "Shot", William,

J.B. and Francis Finane.

He is survived by his daughter, Nancy F. Christiansen (David) of Crawford, MS; two grandsons: Matthew and Will Christiansen and numerous other relatives. He is survived by his faithful canine companion, "Dot Com" and his caregivers Nancy Robinson and Suzette Tomlinson. The family wishes to express their appreciation for the love and kindness given to Charlie from his neighbors in recent years.

Visitation will be at Riles Funeral Home Wednesday from 5 to 7 PM with a Wake Service at 7. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 AM Thursday at the Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle, 123 North West Street, Jackson, MS. Interment services will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to be made to the Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle, Post Office Box 57, Jackson, MS 39205 and to the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, 105 South Montgomery Street, Starkville, MS 39759.
