Gordon Godly

Fort Collins - Gordon Thomas Godly of Ft. Collins, CO, passed away peacefully early on February 1 at home. He was 101 years old. Gordon was a remarkable man who lived an extraordinary life and he will be missed by his children, grandchildren and friends. Gordon was born in Woodbastwick, Norfolk County, England in 1919. His education was interrupted by service in the British Army for 7 years during World War II. He enjoyed regaling his family and friends with stories from his Army postings in England, North Africa and Australia. At the time of his discharge in 1946 he was an acting major in the Intelligence Corp. After the war, he continued his studies at Birkbeck College, Univ. of London. He became a research chemist with an English company which eventually brought Gordon to New York with his wife and young family. A few years later they moved to Matawan, NJ where he was a very active member of Trinity Episcopal Church and served as a lay reader. He retired as a vice-president of Rich Art Color Corp. in Lodi, NJ. He was predeceased by his wife Mary, the mother of his children, in 1994. After his marriage to Antionette McGuire of Fort Collins and Pennington, NJ, he moved to Fort Collins with her. She passed away in 2019. In 2004 Gordon became a U.S. citizen. He is survived by 3 children and their spouses: Gerda and Bill Rabe of Corvallis, OR , Martin and Christine of Sarasota, FL and Christopher of Farmington, NY. Also surviving are grandchildren and their spouses: Kathryn and Joshua, Erin and Michael, Shannon and Luis, and his granddaughter Laura, and 2 great-grandchildren: Greyson and Maya.

A funeral service will be held at St. Peter's Anglican Church in Loveland, CO at 10:30 AM, Saturday, February 13, 2021 with Zoom. To attend in person please reserve via email at office@stpetersloveland.org or by phone to (970) 292-8595. Social distancing guidelines will apply, please wear a mask and keep 6 feet apart. Light refreshments will follow the service. Private burial will be in NJ.
