William I. Coston Sr.

CHAPONOKE - On Thursday Jan. 17th as the sun set and darkness of the night creeped in William I. Coston, Sr., husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend peacefully passed away at 86. Beyond The Dash.... William Coston, Sr. to his friends and family "Big Eye" of Chaponoke, Hurdletown Road passed away at the Elizabeth City Health and Rehabilitation.

He was born to parents Frank and Martha Coston on March 28th 1932. He later met and married Ora, better known to him as "Doll, the love of his life who proceeded him in death.

William is survived by three children Joyce, Martha and partner Larry, Richard and partner (Genice). His eldest son William Jr. of Hampton, Va. preceded him in death. Also surviving William is a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren, great - grandchildren and great- great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, LD (Joseph), John (Buddy), Preston and his sister Gertie Mae.

William was later united in matrimony to the late Estelle Johnson. They had a poodle named :"kinkie" that they adored.

William was "given the gift of life", and now he has to give it back." This was hard but he was fortunate to have led a good and a lucky existence, and for this he was grateful. You could often hear him thanking God in his words " without Jesus I could do nothing". Although William did not have a formal education, he never let this be an obstacle, instead it made him passionate and value education and was unwavering about his children, and grandchildren getting an education.

He worked tirelessly at the Coca - Cola Bottling Company in Elizabeth City for 40 years until he retired due to his failing health. He loved his job and the people.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 27th 2019 at the Porters Chapel A. M. E. Zion Church at 2 P. M in Chaponoke, N. C.. He will lay in repose from 1 P. M. until the time of service. Viewing will be held on Saturday from 5 until 7:00 P. M. in A. C. Robinson & Son Funeral Home, Inc. where flowers may be sent.
