1936 - 2017 Obituary Condolences
Harold "Jock" Whitacre, Sept. 13, 1936 to July 28, 2017. Born in Akron, OH, attended Cuyahoga Falls High School and matriculated to Princeton University where he majored in chemistry, graduating in 1958. Jock married Judy Davis (Whitacre) upon graduation. After 6 years with Goodyear, Jock took a sales position with Pennsalt Chemicals which required he and Judy move to Arlington Heights, IL. Jock then worked for Tumpeer Chemical Co for 18 years, becoming Vice President. In 1986 he and Judy formed Arrow Polychem and they worked together until selling the business in 2004. Jock was an active member of Southminster Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder, sang in the choir for 50+ years, and assisted with building maintenance. He was a 15 year member of the Chicago Master Singers, a lifetime member of the American Chemical Society and a charter member of the Pickwick Society. Jock loved sailing and especially sailing in Door County, WI where he and Judy had a house and spent 40 years of summers. Jock was preceded in death by Judy Davis Whitacre, his wife of 58 years. Parents Harold Sr. and Wanda Whitacre. Survived by his two sons; Harold M. "Hal" Whitacre, III (Tammy) and Gregory D. Whitacre (Kathleen) and grandchildren; Larken, Harold IV (Kit), Quinn, Haines, Nash, Alyssa, Arianna, and three great-grandchildren. His sister; Anna K. Mansfield of Atlanta, GA. Memorial service will be held at Southminster Presbyterian Church in Arlington Heights at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 9, 2017.
