Herman Bowdie Ward Jr. Obituary
HAMPTON - Herman Bowdie Ward, Jr., age 66, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2014. He was born in Newnan, GA and was a lifelong resident of Hampton. In 2013, Bowdie retired from NASA. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Vietnam War, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. His interests included being a member of the HOG Motorcycle Club. Preceding him in rest are his parents, Herman Bowdie Ward, Sr and Ann Lucille Ward; and brother, Kenneth I. Ward. Surviving members of his family include his sister, Shirley Ward Webster and husband Stuart of Verona; nephews and nieces, Brian N. Webster and wife Kate of Amherst, Anna W. McDaniel and husband Aaron of Poquoson, Carrie J. Walker and husband Cameron of Blackridge; great nephews and nieces, Connor P. Webster, Fischer McDaniel, Patrick Ward, Kenneth Wayne Walker, Saylor McDaniel, Abigail Webster; and lifelong friend - brother, "Poncho" (John Thomson). The family extends gratitude and a heartfelt thank you to Mary Ann and Robert Ketterman for their love and comfort they provided to Bowdie during these past months. A time of gathering and remembrance will take place on Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the Poquoson Community Center, 49 Odd Road, Poquoson, VA 23662. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the .
