Alton "Tony" Huckaby

CHURCH POINT - Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, La. for Alton Leon "Tony" Huckaby, 71. Mr. Huckaby, a native of Eunice, La. and long-time resident of Church Point, died at 7:00 A.M. Monday, November 12 at his residence. Father Mark Thibodeaux will conduct the services with interment following in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery on Highway 35 north of Church Point.

Survivors include a daughter, Dawn Cole and husband Bill of Smithfield, R.I.; his sisters, Verda Mae Siffert and Patsy Chapman of Eunice and Becky Miller and husband Craig of Basile, La.; a granddaughter, Kayla Cole of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; a special friend, Bernadine LeJeune of Church Point and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille (Barousse) Huckaby; his parents, Alton L. and Eulalie (Fruge) Huckaby; a brother, James Huckaby and two sisters, Kathleen Briscoe and Betty Jayne LeCoq..

The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 10:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. on Friday, November 16 and continue from 10:00 A.M. Saturday until the time of the services. A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Friday by Monsignor Jefferson J. DeBlanc.

Pallbearers will be Paul, John and James Siffert; Alton James, James and Brandon Huckaby and honorary pallbearer Craig Neal Miller II.

Mr. Huckaby, a Viet Nam veteran, retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1983 as a Master Sergeant with some twenty-two years service. He learned air conditioning and electrical repair and worked for the Acadia Parish School Board for many years. An avid hunter and fisherman, Mr. Huckaby enjoyed doing so with his daughter, granddaughter and many nephews. An active member of VFW Post 9903 and American Legion Post 225, a Fourth Degree Knight of Knights of Columbus Council 2504 and a member of the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Choir for many years, he will be honored with a Flag Presentation Ceremony at the time of services.
