Charles Hugh Bryson

POCOMOKE CITY-Charles Hugh Bryson passed away quietly in his sleep on Friday, Oct. 18, 2013. He was born in Vienna, Ga., on Feb. 19, 1923. He was the son of the late DeWitt and Pollyann Bryson. He was preceded in death by a brother, John W. Bryson, and sisters Margaret Howard and Hazel Sangster.

He was a World War II Navy veteran and served in the European Theater. From 1946 until his first retirement, Chuck was a brick mason, taking great pride in his work. His second career was with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1985.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pocomoke City. He loved studying God's Word and touched the lives of many people. He was affectionately known as "the candy man," always having a pocket full of peppermints to share. He was a member of Millwood Masonic Lodge 198 in Unadilla, Ga.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Jean T. Bryson; and by his daughters, Libera Ann Northam (Tom) and Valerie Jean Overholt (Carroll); and two beloved grandchildren, Charles Michael and Victoria Leigh Overholt; and by several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all of his wonderful doctors, nurses and staff, Hartley Hall nurses and staff and his wonderful care team at Coastal Hospice, all who worked so hard to enable him to be home with his family and remain comfortable.

Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church in Pocomoke City today, Oct. 20, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Paul Elligson officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the First Baptist Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund or Coastal Hospice Inc., P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802-1733.

Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home PA at 107 Vine Street in Pocomoke City. To send condolences to the family visit
