Went to heaven on Saturday, May 3, 2014 after a fatal car accident.

"Jack" was born in Wilmington, DE and grew up in Willow Run in Elsmere. He graduated from A.I. duPont High School, and he worked for 21 1/2 years at Electric Hose & Rubber when the plant closed. Jack then worked as an assembly line worker for General Motors, and retired after 25 years of service. Jack was a hardworking man who provided for his family and wanted the best for them.

Jack married the love of his life, Georgene on April 24, 1965 at St. Hedwig Church. He was a long-time member of St. Hedwig's and was active in the PTA and holiday plays when his children were in school there. He was an avid sports fan. He especially loved the Philadelphia Phillies, Flyers, and Eagles, as well as the Baltimore Ravens. He could also be heard cheering from the stands at UD Blue Hen football games. Jack loved baseball, and his favorite baseball player was Mickey Mantle. He was known for his love of Casapulla Italian subs, which he ate every Saturday for 50 plus years. He liked to spend time going to the movies, dinner, and the Riverfront to listen to music with Georgene.

Jack was preceded in death by his father, John J. Dorris, mother, Alice (Neff) Dorris, brother, Gerald Dorris, and son-in-law, Bryan Eisenhardt.

Jack and his wife, Georgene Chmura Dorris, left this earth a few hours apart after the collision. They recently celebrated 49 years of marriage. Jack is survived by his three children, Denise Eisenhardt of Lake Mary, FL, John Dorris III of Lake Worth, FL, and JoEllen Workman of Smyrna, DE; his daughter-in-law, Ximena Arenas Dorris, and his son-in-law, Jon Workman. Pop-Pop loved spending time with his six grandchildren, Gavin, Owen, Sophia, Beckham, Logan, and Declan. He is also survived by his siblings, Alice Mercante, Bill Dorris and his wife, Millie, and Bob Dorris, all of Wilmington.

Relatives and friends are invited to the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Hedwig R.C. Church on Tues., May 13, 2014 at 10:00am.
