LeRoy F. Meredith

LeRoy Fairfax Meredith, of Cokesbury Village, formerly a longtime resident of Oakwood Rd., Fairfax died on January 21, 2013. He had recently celebrated his 87th birthday.

Roy was born in Newport, Rhode Island and raised in nearby Jamestown, R.I. Roy proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II, deployed in the China Burma India theatre. After his service to our country, he enrolled in Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, N.J. and graduated in 1952 with a degree in Engineering. Roy started his long and distinguished career with the DuPont Company in 1952 in the project engineering group, retiring in 1992 as Service Center Supervisor. During his tenure at DuPont, a highlight of his career was Experimental Station site electrical manager. Later in his life, Roy earned his designation as a Delaware Professional Engineer. In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling, photography, gardening and dancing. Roy was a voracious reader, especially of World War II history and he was a longtime student at the Academy of Lifelong Learning. A special hobby, for which he will be fondly remembered by family and friends, was to produce custom wooden Christmas tree ornaments.

Roy is survived by his wife of 59 years, Julia Hoekstra Meredith.; their 2 children, Pamela M. Cardoni (Aldo) and Todd D. Meredith (Sandy) and their beloved grandchildren: Andrew, Amy, Timothy and Kimberly.

Roy's family wants to express their deepest gratitude to the health care staff at Cokesbury Village and the staff of Delaware Hospice for their tender, loving care.

A memorial service will be held at 11am, Saturday, January 26 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, (where Roy was a longtime member), where friends may call after 10:30am. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests honoring the memory of LeRoy F.
