Robert Newton Walker

Newark - Robert Newton Walker, 75, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2020. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on January 15, 1945, he was the son of the late Jack and Martha Walker.

Robert was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served during the Vietnam War and achieved the rank of Corporal. He was employed with the Xerox Corporation as a service specialist and retired after 25 years of service. An avid gun collector, Robert enjoyed target shooting and crabbing. He was also a longtime member of the VFW. His pride and joy were his children and his beloved grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Jack Walker (Linda, deceased).

Robert is survived by his children, Kimberly Edwards, Robin Daum (Michael), and Robert N. Walker, Jr. (Ken Mermon); his grandchildren, Justin and Bryant Edwards, Kyle, Carly and Ryan Daum; his sister, Janet Walker.

Funeral arrangements for Robert will be conducted in compliance with COVID-19 health directives which include mandatory face masks, social distancing and monitored access to the funeral home.

A visitation will be held at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Monday, September 28 from 11:00AM-12:30PM. Funeral services will begin at 12:30PM, immediately followed by a private interment for family members.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Robert may be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars, Processing Center, PO Box 8958, Topeka, KS 66608-8958 (www.vfw.org) or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (www.stjude.org).

I met Bob fifty years ago when we worked for Xerox. For the past several years I would visit him at home and drink a Heineken or two. Bob was the kindest, gentlest, most generous person I knew. God speed old friend.
