Sara Arthur "Sally" Bohner, 90, passed from this life on Monday, May 20, 2013, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. In accordance with her wishes, she has been cremated. A memorial service celebrating Sally's life will be held at 10 a.m., on Saturday, May 25, at Hickman Road Church of Christ, located at 5217 Hickman Road in Des Moines, of which she was a member. Private committal services will take place at a later date at Smith Lake in Alexandria, MN.

Sally was born on October 23, 1922, in Sioux City, Iowa to Robert Glenn and Nell (Harris) Arthur. She attended both the University of New Mexico, Morningside College and later graduated from the University of Iowa. On August 16, 1947, Sally married Neil E. Bohner in Sioux City, Iowa, and they moved to Des Moines in 1948. During the Korean Conflict, Neil was called back into active duty. For nearly two years, they resided at Camp Gordon in Augusta, GA and Camp Cook in California, until moving back to Des Moines in 1952. Four years later, the family moved to Ridgewood, N.J., where they resided until 1960, when they moved back to Des Moines, where they eventually settled and made their home.

For several years, Sally was employed as a substitute elementary teacher. Sally had many interests and particularly enjoyed the 31 years they spent at their summer home on Smith Lake in Alexandria, MN.

She will be missed by her husband of 65 years, Neil Bohner of Des Moines; children, Daniel (Phyllis) Bohner of West Des Moines, Alicia (David) Lanz of Bellingham, WA, James Bohner of Des Moines and Rebecca (Steve) Goodman of Fort Walton Beach, FL; sister-in-law, Jan Arthur of Amarillo, TX; and two grandchildren, Tara Lanz and Michael (Laine) Lanz. Sally was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Nancy Russell and Peggy Thygesen; and a brother, Robert Arthur.
