Barbara Williams Obituary
Williams, Barbara Annette (Brown)

Barbara Annette (Brown) Williams died at home in Ephraim August 27, 2013. She was born in Madison Wisconsin on January 15, 1939 to Malcolm and Margaret Brown, both of whom pre-deceased her.

Barbara graduated from Madison West High School in 1956. She attended Beloit College and graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1960 with a degree in Home Economics - clothing and textiles.

Barbara married Douglas Alan Williams on November 5, 1960. They lived in Chicago where Barbara was an executive secretary at Time, Inc. In 1964 they moved to Madison and in 1969 to Wheaton, Illinois.

While living in Wheaton, Barbara designed custom needlepoint and illustrated several needlepoint books. Her needlepoint design, "Flag Bear-er" was featured on the cover of the bi-centennial issue of Family Circle Magazine and another design became a kit for Bloomingdale's.

Barbara began quilting after the family moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in California in 1979. Several of her quilts won ribbons in juried quilt shows. In 1991 she purchased a quilt store in Fish Creek that she named Door County Quiltworks. She ran the store for nearly 10 years.

During that time she continued to display her quilts and dolls in quilt shows and exhibitions in Northeast Wisconsin and nationally. She and her husband Doug retired to Ephraim in 2002 and resided there year round.

Barbara is survived by her husband, her daughter Robin Williams (Rama) Blair of Oceanside, CA and grandchildren Lindsay Williams, McKaila Williams, Zelly Williams Blair, Noel Williams Blair, Genevieve Williams Blair, with more due at Christmas; and by daughter Megan (Nathan) Shaw of Holmen, WI and grandchildren Owen Shaw and Isaac Shaw.

A celebration of Barbara's life will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Sister Bay, WI at 2:30 PM, Friday, September 6. Donations may be made to the Ridges Sanctuary, Baileys Harbor, WI.
