HANOVER Robert J. "Bob" Meredith, 82, died Sunday, June 16, 2013, at the Hanover Hall Nursing Center. Born February 6, 1931, in Hanover, he was the son of the late C. Homer and Mary E. (Meckley) Meredith. Bob was the loving husband of G. Florine "Flo" (Fuhrman) Meredith to whom he was married for 44 years and the late Rosemary G. (Neail) Meredith who died in 1968. Bob was a 1949 graduate machinist of Williamson Trade School, Chester County. Mr. Meredith served as founding member of the U.S. Air Force Drum and Bugle Corps and Bag Pipe Band, an integral section of the U.S. Air Force Band, Washington, D.C. from 1950 through 1954. He was a member of the Air Force Musicians Association. Bob retired from printing after 35 years, and was employed by the Evening Sun for 23 years, and served as mechanical trouble shooter for the Brush-Moore newspaper chain. He was composing room foreman with Trimmer Printing, York, for 12 years and retired from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board after 12 years of service. Mr. Meredith was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hanover, where he was a former Choir Member. He was a Past Exalted Ruler and life member of the Hanover Elks Lodge #763. Bob was a member and music arranger for the Elks Chorus. He founded the Ladies Auxiliary when he was Exalted Ruler. Also, he belonged to the Republican Club and the Hanover YMCA. Bob played trombone with the Lyric Band for 25 years and served as librarian and played the tuba his last few years with the band. Bob enjoyed being with his family and both foreign and domestic travel with his wife in retirement. In addition to his wife Flo, Bob is survived by five children, Deborah A. Krebs of York, Frank H. Meredith of Schoharie, N.Y., Robert J. Meredith, Jr. of Dover, Daniel M. Meredith II of Needmore, Elizabeth A. Baker of Glenville; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, D. Mark Meredith of York; and one sister, Carol A. Homer of Hanover. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary K. Nell and Lois M. Kyler; and one brother, Homer M. Meredith. A service to celebrate and remember Bob's life will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick St., Hanover, with the Rev. Gregory Rapp officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery, York. A viewing will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Bob may be made to First United Methodist Church, 200 Frederick St., Hanover, PA 17331.
