Glen L. Pawling

Melbourne, FL

Melbourne, FL - Glen L. Pawling, 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday (11/20/13), in the presence of his family. A native of Beaver Springs, PA, he was the son of the late William and Verdie (Lepley) Pawling. He was preceded in death by his sister, Helen. Glen sadly missed his daughter, Ann Wright, who died in 1975.

After graduation from Beaver Vocational High School in 1942, he joined the 148th Combat Engineers Battalion, who landed on Utah Beach. His company participated in the Adrennes, Remagen, and the Battle of the Bulge earning five bronze stars for his service.

After returning from the war, he was the proprietor of Pawling Turkey Hatchery in Middle Creek, PA. As a farmer he was actively involved in soil conservation and served as president of the Pennsylvania Turkey Association. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Beaver Springs.

Relocating to Ocean City, NJ in 1966, he worked for Vineland Animal Laboratories for many years ending his career as a consultant for Retention Systems in Egg Harbour Township, NJ. Through the years he was the owner of Pawling Apartments in Ocean City, NJ. He belonged to the VFW and St. John Lutheran Church of Ocean City.

Wintering first in North Port and most recently Sebastian, Florida, he was an associate member of Concordia Lutheran Church and a 32nd Degree Mason at the Sebastian Masonic Lodge #232. Always active he played softball, was an avid biker and played golf until he was 85 years old.

Survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Velma (Kline) of Melbourne, FL., his daughter Joyce and husband, Stanley Wirpsza of Ocean City, NJ. and son Benjamin Pawling and wife, Michelle of Satellite Beach, FL. He will be missed by his four granddaughters Laura and Lillian Wirpsza and Ashley and Julia Pawling, his nephew Kenneth Snook and family residing in Lewisburg, PA; a brother in law, Dr. William Kline from Belleville, PA., and his four children.

The family would like to thank all the individuals involved in the Honor Flights to Washington, D.C. Glen enjoyed the wonderful flight and tribute to WWII Veterans. The family also would like to acknowledge the wonderful staff at Hibiscus Court and faithful companion Jefrie from Visiting Angels.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Concordia Lutheran Church, 300 Barefoot Bay, FL. 32976.
