Colonel Gregory C. Frese, Jr.

Melbourne, FL

Colonel Gregory C. Frese Jr, 90, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at his home. Colonel Frese was born September 9th 1923 in Tampa, FL to Gregory C. Frese and Frances (Whitehead) Frese. He graduated from Jesuit High School in Tampa before going on to the University of Florida. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and completed his pilot training at Millville Army Air Field in New Jersey before joining the 366 Fighter Group. He served with distinction in WW II and Korea as a reconnaissance and bomber support fighter pilot. He returned home to finish his Bachelor degree from the University of Florida, and his Masters degree in Business from St Louis University. Colonel Frese held many staff and command positions during his 27 years of active duty in the U.S.A.F. His travels took him from Edwards Air force Base to the Pentagon to Hanscome Field, to Patrick Air Force Base and back to the Pentagon where he received the Legion of Merit Metal and retired in 1969. He went on to work another 16 years for the General Electric Co. in their Jet Engine Group. After leaving GE he moved to Viera where he could be found playing golf and driving his Corvette.

He was truly a member of the Greatest Generation and will be missed by his family and friends. Colonel Frese was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Elizabeth A. Frese; and his sister, Dell Frese.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Frese; his four children, Mary Vielhauer, Gregory Frese III, Patricia Frese, and Nora McColgan; his grandchildren, Bryan Vielhauer, Lisa Miklich, and Kathryn Hampton; his stepchildren, Jean Campbell and Margaret Godwin; his stepgrandchildren Jean Marie Fuller, William Campbell, Colleen Gaffney, Trey Godwin, and Jon Godwin; and seven great grandchildren. The family wishes to also recognize Mallory, Francheska, Marie, Carolina, Keisha, and Denise the many caregivers, who loved him like family. A funeral mass will be held at the Patrick AFB South Chapel at 3pm on September 26th 2013.

Internment with full military honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to VITAS, 4450 W.
