Thomas Edmund Burke, age 70, died peacefully in his home on February 1, 2013.

He is survived by wife, Penelope Ann (Lowe) Burke, and their children and grandchildren: Lisa Burke and George Cushing and children Noah, Nathaniel and Emma; Channing Burke and William Wiese and sons, Jackson and Carter; Marlowe Burke and Alvin Khoo and sons, Nicholas and Alexander; Blair Burke and Christopher Kaine and sons, William and Hugh; Deborah Gil and Ryan Burke and son, Craig Gil; Michele and Ethan Burke and sons, Jeremy, Joshua, and Thompson; Rebecca and Sasa Zorovic and their children, Anders and Lauren; special friends, Elisabeth and Denis Maison; sister, Kate and Carl Treiber, and numerous family and friends.

Tom earned a BA from The University of Dallas and a PhD from The University of Texas in English Literature and taught at several universities before finding his passion in building homes and commercial properties.

Pallbearers: brothers-in-law Larry Lowe, Blake Lowe, Jesse H. Dickson, Henry Abel, James Appel, Chris McGhee and Carl Treiber. Honorary pallbearers are his 15 grandchildren.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. H. Alex Preti and his staff for their excellent care and compassion.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at Friendswood Friends Worship Center, 502 S. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, Texas, 77546. Burial will follow at Friends Cemetery in Friendswood, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests, with gratitude, that contributions be directed to FRAXA Research Foundation, 45 Pleasant Street, Newburyport, MA 01950 for the benefit of Fragile X and autism.
