Michael Butorovich Obituary
Michael Butorovich

Butte —Michael Butorovich passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2014, in Lewiston, Idaho. He was born on March 25, 1932, in Butte, Montana, to immigrant parents from Yugoslavia.

As a self-made man, Michael started out with a humble beginning. As a child he worked delivering ice to help to support his family and had to leave school after the eighth grade to work full time. He served in the Army and then became an apprentice plumber at Warm Springs State Hospital. He was awarded an honorary GED. "Mickey" married Janet Johnston in 1956 and the two had five children who they raised to love life and laughter. Susan, George, Nancy, Jenny and Steve grew up at "The Springs" where they were given all their father did not have as a child. As a father, Michael took great pride in the accomplishments of his children.

Some of Mickey's proudest achievements were serving as volunteer Fire Chief at Warm Springs. His involvement with the Western Fire Chief's association included serving as the organization President. It was a unique honor for a volunteer Chief to hold this position. After his Presidency, he continued as the organization Exhibits Coordinator for many years. A man of great accomplishment, Michael worked his way into Administrative positions including Operations and Support Bureau Chief at the State Hospital. His work ethic and motivation served him well in life. His ability to figure out complex math problems in his head was an indication of an extraordinary intelligence, and a great trick used to amaze kids and grandkids.

Deep sea fishing was a favorite activity. Mickey spent many vacations fishing and cooking for his friends on the Memories, a graceful fishing boat owned by friends. He always had fish in the freezer waiting to be cooked on the grill and shared with friends and family. A natural entertainer, he was the life of any party he attended or hosted.

Michael and Dorothy married in 1983. They spent the next 30 years enjoying a life of travel and sunshine. The couple made five trips to Yugoslavia to connect present with past. These adventures served to enhance his appreciation and respect for family and culture. Michael and Dorothy enjoyed caring for their lovely homes in Eugene, Oregon, on the Missouri River in Great Falls, and most recently in Lewiston, Idaho.

Michael is survived by his wife, Dorothy; brother, Bob (Rosalie) Butorovich; sisters, Ann Sorich and Zorka Oreskovich; sister-in-law, Dorothy Masonovich; his children, Susan (Tony) Miller , George (Leslie) Butorovich, Nancy (Carl) Nelson , and Jenny (Bill) Given, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stojan and Lubitsa Butorovich; son, Steve Thomas Butorovich; sisters, Mary, Olga, and Rose; brothers, John and Steve; brothers-in-law, Al Sorich, Rube Pierce, and Steve Oreskovich; and four step-daughters, Sally, Nancy, Patsy, and Chris.

Throughout his life Michael lived as he wanted to live. He was a private and proud man who will be deeply missed by all who loved him.

Friends are asked to join the family on Sunday, April 20, 2014, after 6:00 PM in the Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Butte, Montana. Prayers will be recited at 7:00 PM. Funeral Services will be conducted on Monday, April 21, 2014, at 11:00 am in the Church with interment to follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Association.
