Fred Finley Obituary
Fred Jones Finley

Fred Jones Finley, 90, of Greenville, beloved husband of Margaret McKee Finley for 66 years, passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at his home, surrounded by love.

Fred will be remembered by his warm greetings, his smile and acceptance into his heart by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He courageously served in the U.S. Army for 5 years, in the Tunisian, Algerian-French Morocco, Sicilian, Normandy, Northern France, and Rhineland Campaigns and battles. He received the Purple Heart on April 24, 1945.

After service, he was trained in floral design at the First Floral School in South Carolina that was started by his mother, Kate Finley, of Finley's Flowers. He loved the art of floral design, but was led back to his Father's occupation, the "meat business."

Fred was affiliated with, and will be fondly remembered by many, from Finley's Market on Augusta Road in Greenville. He was known affectionately as "Fred Friendly."

Surviving, in addition to his wife are two daughters, Susan Hanover and husband, Tod of Greenville, and Kathy Whitmire and husband, Jackie of Toccoa, GA; two sons, Wayne Finley and wife, Davie and Robert Finley, both of Greenville; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a brother, Jack R. Finley and wife, Nina of Fort Mill, SC.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Hatley; and three brothers, Frank, Jim and Joe Finley.

Visitation will be held Saturday, November 10, 2012 from 12:00 p.m. until 1:15 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the Downtown Chapel. A private committal will be held in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, 15 Oregon St. Greenville, SC 29605.

The family will be at their respective homes.

Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting
