Gustafson, Harold W.

Harold W. Gustafson, age 80, a resident of Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc, died on Friday evening, October 4, 2013 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center.

He was born on December 1, 1932 in the township of Dale, Cottonwood County, MN, son of the late Clarence and Florence Marie (Hubbartt) Gustafson. Harold was a Veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict, both in Korea and Japan. Harold was the recipient of the United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with Bronze Star and the National Defense Service Medal. On April 14, 1956 he married the former Ethel Mae Waack at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Newtonburg. She preceded him in death on April 8, 1997. Harold began his employment in Manitowoc at White House Milk Company and then was employed with Lakeside Foods until his retirement. After his employment with Lakeside, Harold enjoyed a part-time position at Natural Ovens, working on the company farm. He especially enjoyed grooming and taking care of the horses.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law: Debra & Jay Ney, Manitowoc; one brother and two sisters-in-law: Donald & Jean Gustafson, St. Paul, MN, Judy Gustafson, Milwaukee; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Kenneth & Peggy Waack, Manitowoc, Rev. Ralph & Carole Waack, Manitowoc; and a sister-in-law: Eunice Waack, Manitowoc. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and a sister-in-law: Eldon and Betty Gustafson, Robert Gustafson; and a sister and brother-in-law: Helen & Charles Stockton.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday October 11, 2013 at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Service will be the Rev. Victor Headrick with burial to follow at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church Cemetery. Military grave side rites will be accorded by the VFW Otto Oas Post #659.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc on Thursday evening, October 10, 2013 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Friday morning, October 11, 2013 from 9:30 AM until 10:45 AM.

Harold enjoyed riding his bicycle around town and especially taking care of his granddog, Chloe.
