David was both a friend a mentor to me. David worked with my father, Robert Jordan. He ran Butler County Memorial Park, owned by my father. I feel that had my father not sold the cemetery that perhaps things would have turned out very differently for David. For that, I feel very badly. We loved Pam and the kids. When I found out about David's tragic and premature passing, I was very depressed. He was a great man, husband, father and employee to my father. He is missed.

DAVE'S FAMILY,
I just want to tell you I love you very much, and Dave will never be forgotten. It was just a small thing but, it didn't matter if it had been two days or two years, Dave always made me feel good when I saw him. With a big smile and out reached hand he'd say," Hey man, it's good to see you," and I always knew he meant it. There will always be a piece of him I carry with me. I write our name everyday, and I always have been and always will be very proud to have been named after such a great man.

I only knew Dave and his family for a few years long ago, but, they became family to me in every way. Dave was always an inspiration to me not only as a Christian, but, as a human being and a musician. Though we have not been in contact for a while, I still feel the great loss for his family, friends and myself. Our loss is God's gain, and I know we will all be together in God's Time.

Today, 3/29/08, just before I sang "Holy Are You Lord" at the funeral of Brother Cremeans, I learned of your heartbreaking tragedy! It has been years since I have seen Curt & Pig! After I hugged them I immediately asked them how Dave & Darrell are doing! Being on the road in ministry continuously, I had NO idea what had happened! I am crushed beyond words! The only consolation we have is the fact that Dave loved Jesus and I am sure that He is basking in the "sonlight" of God's love right this second! I have MANY precious memories of Dave, you and the girls! We speak God's peace that passes all understanding to you and the family! We love you!

Pam,
I remember Dave from our high school days at Garfield. Wow, what a talent. He was a monster musician and it was a treat for me to be able to share a love of music with him. I talk about him often, even though I hadn't seen him in some time. He was a fantastic musician, but more than that, he was a great guy to be around. I used to watch him on the Pike TV telecasts on Sundays......his musicianship, even when they brought in the "big" stars, was second to none. I will always have fond memories of his terrific smile and his wonderful kindness. Please know that you and your family are in my prayers. Absent from the body, present with the Lord.

Pam, Tonja, Barb and Hugh,

I don't have the words to express how sorry I feel for your loss. Over the last week, the words to a song that has brought me a great deal of comfort in the last couple of years have played over and over in my mind as I've thought and prayed for you. I would like to share them with you now in the hopes that they comfort you as well.

In and out of situations/That tug of war at me./All day long I struggle/For the answers that I need./That's when I come into your presence/All my questions become clear/And for a sacred moment/No doubt can interfere.

In the presence...of Jehovah
God Almighty...Prince of Peace
Troubles vanish...Hearts are mended
In the presence...of the King.

Through His love the Lord provided/This place for us to rest./A place to find the answers/In our hours of distress/There is never any reason/To give in despair/Just look up and breath His name/He will come and He will meet you there.

I pray that you find His peace in His presence.

Pam, Tonya, Barbie and family,
It's been many years now that I last saw or spoke with your family. However, last Christmas a year ago I was a church banquet and sat next to Dave's mom and dad and was glad to get to know them. They were so very sweet and it reminded me that our families were connected by my Uncle Edward Colwell. My heart is filled with sadness for you and your family. But, I know a God that will not fail you and your family will get through this ... with HIS help. I think back to when Dave lead the band at the Pike for so many years and how it evolved over time and it was so great! He's playing in a much larger heavenly band now....my deepest sincerest sympathy for you and your girls and family.
Kindest regards, Wanda Murray

Pam, Tonya, Barbie and Family: Just a couple weeks ago I unpacked the 1986 national teen talent contest trophy and proudly told the story to my coworkers about that award and how Dave turned us into winners...that phone call from him to tell us the results was one I'll never forget. More importantly I'll never forget the times he mentored, counseled and prayed for me throughout the years. Dave had an awesome impact on so many and was a great model for all of us. Our thoughts and prayers are with you!!

I was deeply sadden to hear the news about Dave. Growing up during the time I did at Princeton Pike, I was blessed to be a part of this huge family. My prayers are with you all that the Lord will comfort you and continue to help you through this difficult time.

Pam, Tonja, Barb, Hugh, Regan, Rylee & Jaxon: I love each one of you so very much and have a HUGE hole in my heart because Dave is gone. As I told Regan, he is still living, it's just somewhere else. I believe that God allows him to look down and see all the good things that is happening and will happen in your lives! I know that he is so very proud of the strength, love, and faith that has carried you through this very, very trying and difficult time!

What a wonderful man, husband, father, father-in-law, grandpa, and friend! The life that he lived out consistently every day is the wonderful legacy that he has left you to follow. Anyone he loved, he truly loved with all his heart; and I'm so proud to say that I was one of those people. However, nothing can ever compare to the way he loved his family. I have always said that I'd never seen another man anywhere who was more devoted and commited to his family! Hold on tight to all the wonderful memories that you made with him --he has certainly left PLENTY!

I love you all -- you really are MY FAMILY!

What a gigantic hole has been left here because of the loss of my "brother" Dave. I say that because I loved him so much more than just a friend -- I really felt like he was part of my family! His talent, his consistency, and his quiet strength has made an everlasting imprint on my life. Every thing that I ever accomplish in ministry will be marked and branded by his influence, and it will be credited to his account in heaven!
I love him and can't wait to worship with him again as I sing & he accompanies me in Heaven!

Pam, Tonja, Hugh, Barb, Regan, Rylee & Jaxon: my prayers, thoughts, and love are there with you -- you guys really are my family. Even though it's been impossible for me to be there with you right now, please know that my heart has been there every second. I love each one of you very much and promise that I'll see you SOON!

May God send his abundant grace to all of the Colwell family. All of your brothers and sisters in Christ are holding you up during this heartbreaking time. Growing up at Belle Ave Pentecostal Church, I was blessed by the ministry of the Colwell family. David was just a young man, but God already put his touch of annointing on him. I, along with everyone who ever knew him, will miss him and his music terribly. We love you all.

To Dave's family:
There are not words to express my deepest sympathy for the loss that you, and and so many of us are feeling. Even though it had been some time since my last contact with Dave, he had such a profound impact on my life. I held him as the absolute pinnacle of what I strived to be as a man. It is not often that we speak so highly, and enthusiastically about someone when they are still with us, but that is exactly the way it was when talking about Dave. I had so many uplifting conversations with so many about Dave's kindness, and generosity while he was still living, and now that he is gone, I am so deeply saddened because this world will not be the same without him. He had such a long lasting impact on my life as a young man that I will never, EVER forget! And I only hope that his kind hearted, generous, and loving spirit will live on through the countless lives that he has touched ... I will NEVER forget him.

We are all so saddened for your loss. Certainly, David is now rejoicing around the throne in Heaven and experiencing all he has sang and played music about all his life on earth. He will be sorely missed in this mortal world, but we can all be encouraged to know we will see him again very soon. May God bless and comfort the loved ones he has left behind. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I will never forget watching Dave direct the band at Princeton Pike, sometimes standing in front, sometimes signaling from his chair. His humble, kind, gentle way was evident, and so was the tremendous love and respect of the band members for their leader. Thank you, Colwell family, for sharing Dave with us. God's kingdom here on earth has certainly lost a gentle giant of a leader. We are praying for you; be assured that God holds each of you in the palm of His hand. Love, Judy Flick

I cannot express the loss I feel right now for my cousin, David. Even though I have lived so far away for so many years, my heart has remained close to my family. This, of course, is no time to dwell on regrets of not visiting more often, but I would like to have heard David play his guitar one more time. I am certain he is playing a tune with dad right now. I will keep an ear open at all times to hear those heavenly notes from them two. Play on.............David and Roger(my father). Pam and family, you are in my prayers. Love you much................... Roy Colwell

Words cannot express how saddened we were to hear of Dave's passing. Dave touched our lives in so many ways while we were at Pike. We will always be grateful of the times he spent listening and encouraging our boys in their younger years. Whether it was Jeff in the band, Nate at a football game, or Jentzen just being Jentzen... Dave always took time to ask how they were doing. He had such a sweet spirit about him that always made us feel important. While we haven't had the opportunity to see any of you in quite some time, please always know that the imprint Dave left in our hearts will forever be cherished. Our love and prayers are with you through this time. God Bless you All! We love you!

Pam, Tonya, and Barbie: We have all lost so much with Dave's passing, and none more than all of you. I am so sorry for the pain you are all going through. Dave had a way of seeing everyone's best qualities and making them feel special and valued. His smile, his energy, his sense of adventure, and that twinkle in his eye can't be replaced on this earth, but I know he's now walking those "streets of gold" exploring the wonders of heaven, checking out his new home, playing some awesome music, chatting with Grandma and Grandpa and so many others... I think he's smiling and spreading his Daveness there even now. While that is all so true, it is still so hard and no words are enough. I love you all and hope to see you soon.

I too am saddened and shocked to hear of the passing of one of the greatest and most talented men I knew. I know the band will sound amazing and the songs sung will be sweeter now that he has transferred his membership to Glory!

David, I have known you fro several years and always have admire your stand for Christ and your love for God and family and country. We will miss you. I am sure there was an empty seat at the band podium in heaven until you got there. I can't wait to her a musical arrangement prepared by you and the Psalmist David and his harp. Heaven sounding sweeter and yet here left behind it will seem lonesome. I am sure my dad (Dallas Alexander) will join you on a wonderful song there in glory. God Bless your family and friends. We will never forget you. Yours in Christ, Darroll Alexander
