Alphonse Castonguay Obituary

Alphonse Castonguay, 82, of Bristol, died on Saturday (June 14, 2014) at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center, West Haven. Al was born in Kedgwick, New Brunswick, Canada on November 2, 1931 and was one of eight children of the late Lionel and Louise (Cote) Castonguay. He was raised in New Brunswick before moving to Bristol where he lived for most of his life. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. His time in the Air Force included serving as a body guard for the Secretary of the Air Force. Al worked as a security guard at the Newington Veteran's Hospital. After retirement, he lived in Northampton, MA from 2002 until returning to the Bristol area in 2009. He was a member of the American Legion Seicheprey Post 2 and the former Franco American Club of Bristol. Al leaves three sons and a daughter in law: Alphonse J. Castonguay Jr. of Columbia, TN, Guy and Diane Castonguay of Morehead City, NC, and Lionel Castonguay of Bristol; two daughters and a son in law: Naomi Castonguay of Bristol, and Rosanna and Kevin Smith of Houston, TX; two sisters, Analie Maccree of Arizona, and Louella Castonguay of New York; a brother: David Castonguay of Cheshire; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers: Gerald and Claude Castonguay, and sisters: Marie Leonnette O'Connor and Carmen Washenko. Relatives and friends may call at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, on Tuesday morning (June 24, 2014) between 10 and 11 AM. Funeral services will be held immediately following at Funk Funeral Home at 11 AM. Burial, with military honors, will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol.
