HOGAN, John H. Jr.

John Henry Hogan, Jr., 85, of South Windsor, beloved husband of Jean (Austin) Hogan, passed away on Monday (March 25, 2013). He was born May 11, 1927 in Hartford, son of the late John Henry Hogan and Elizabeth (Nagle) Hogan. He lived in South Windsor for 54 years. John graduated from Weaver High School in 1945. For 18 years he co-owned Edgewood Auto Service in Hartford and East Hartford, following this he was a technician at Balch Pontiac in East Windsor, then service manager at Gig Motors in East Hartford, retiring in 1995. John was a U.S. Navy veteran having served his country during World War II. John served his community with his long involvement with the Knights of Columbus Council 5779, the American Legion Post 133, the Town of South Windsor Super Sixty Club, as a Past President of the Wapping Fair, and as Chairman of the Town of South Windsor Bicentennial Celebration. In addition to his wife of 61 years, he is survived by his daughter Kathleen Hogan of New York City, his son John Hogan III and his wife Karen of Enfield, and his daughter Christine Schuster and her husband Thomas of Wallingford, six grandchildren John IV and his wife Catherine, Jennifer, and Patrick Hogan, Allison, Kerri and Kaitlyn Schuster and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Laurie of Costa Mesa, California and was predeceased by two brothers and three sisters.
His family will receive friends for calling hours on Monday, April 1, 2013 from 4-8 p.m. at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor. Family and friends may gather at the funeral Home on Tuesday, April 2, at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church, 80 Hayes Rd., South Windsor. Burial will follow in Wapping Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the , 1 Union St., Suite 301, Robbinsvillle, NJ 08691-4183.
