Robert L. Blauvelt

Robert L. Blauvelt, 97, of Avon, passed away Friday, September 20, 2019. We mourn the loss of our dearly beloved Pop Pop. He was so unique…almost perfect…and the husband of Gloria (Goodsell) Blauvelt, for more than 75 years, as well as father, grandfather, great grandfather, and uncle. There is an empty space in all our hearts which will be filled with poignant and pre-cious memories of Bob's journey through the years and how he touched our lives and those of others. Our family was the center of his universe. We loved him dearly and he loved us dearly with special heart tugs from granddaughter Katie C. Gordon, grandson Michael Connon, great granddaughter Lilly Gordon, and great grandson Cooper Gordon. They adored Pop Pop and he thought it a miracle he could hold them as infants and then watch them grow and mature and become loving, kind, thoughtful, respectful, and successful. He will greatly miss the adventures of Lilly and Cooper in life but while he could be with them, they were sheer joy. None of us re-members Bob saying a cross word or raising his voice in anger. He was born in Huntington, Long Island, and he and Gloria were married on November 13, 1943. He was a proud member of the Greatest Generation, loved our country and served it well for four years in the U.S. Ma-rine Air Corps. He attended Ithaca College and received his degree in physical therapy and was one of the first to receive that honor. He and Gloria returned to Huntington where he estab-lished a practice which would last some forty years. It was during those years the family sailed the waters of Long Island Sound but when he and Gloria retired to Farmington Woods and saw the beautiful golf course, he became an avid golfer. He was past president of the Huntington Rotary Club and a lifetime member of the Huntington Elks Club. Surviving are his wife Gloria, daughter Nancy Connon and her husband Bill of Canton; son Robert Blauvelt and his wife Susie of Cumming, Georgia; grandchildren Tyler and Casey Blauvelt, granddaughter Katie C. Gordon and her husband Peter of Glen Rock, NJ; parents of great grandchildren Lilly and Cooper Gor-don; and grandson, Michael Connon of Nyack, New York. Also, he leaves niece Dawn DeStefano and her husband Ernest of Quechee, Vermont; niece Linda Barilla and husband Thomas, of Toms River, NJ, and nephew Gary Goodsell of North Richmond Hills, TX. Special thanks to the entire staff of Avon Health Center for superb care and service…angels all. His family will receive friends Saturday, November 9th from 11:00 - 11:30 AM followed by a Memorial Service at 11:30 AM and concluding with military honors at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon.
