HOOLIHAN KATHRYN RAND, 70, passed away June 20, 2003 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Charleston, West Virginia, Kathryn moved to Florida at the age of ten. "Mrs. Hoolihan" as she was known to hundreds of students, was a devoted teacher at Sabal Palm Elementary School in North Miami Beach for 35 years before her retirement in 1996. Her passion for travel took her all over the world. Kathryn was a proud member of the "Daughters of the American Revolution" and "United Daughters of the Confederacy". Her love of geneaology led her to write a book about her family and their colorful lineage, which she completed just weeks ago. She is survived by her son, Bill; daughter-in-law, Kelly and grandson Jack; sister, Lucy (Christian) Johnson; sister, Martha (Lawrence) Hand; sister-in-law, Barbara Rand; nephews, David (Jeanine) Briggs, Charles and Jones Hand, and niece, Debbie (Daniel) Markley. A celebration of Kathryn's life will be held Tuesday, June 24, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Spanish Monastery, 16711 W. Dixie Highway, North Miami Beach.
