Lambert Prettyman Jr., 82, of Sarasota, died May 20, 2009.
Arrangements are by Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel.
Bert was born Nov. 23, 1926, in New York City to Lambert and Ruth Prettyman. He attended Horace Mann School for Boys in Riverdale, N.Y., and served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946.
After he received a Bachelor of Science in industrial engineering from Columbia University in 1950, he joined the General Foods Corporation at its Maxwell House Division coffee plant in Hoboken, N.J. During his career with General Foods, Bert worked in San Leandro, Calif.; Hoboken, N.J.; and White Plains, N.Y. In 1971 Bert was vice president of operations at Kohner Toys. He completed his career as plant manager of the Maxwell House facility in San Leandro and retired in 1985.
Bert is survived by Kathleen, his loving wife of 57 years; a daughter, Linda, her husband, Chester Fream, and their children Courtney, Scott, Jessica and Sean; a son, Robert, his wife, Pamela, and their children Ryan, Meghan and Kelly; a son, Kevin, his wife, Julie, and their children Jackson and Samuel; and a great-grandson, Grant, son of Courtney and husband Neil Carignan.
The family gives special thanks to the 1986 anonymous donor of Bert's life-giving kidney.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Polycystic Kidney Foundation at PKD Foundation, 9221 Ward Parkway, Suite 400, Kansas City, MO 64114-3367.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date in Orfordville, N.H., where Bert enjoyed the summers of his youth at Camp Moosilauke. Bert will be interred alongside his parents and grandparents.
