Donna Louise Bunton Caskey
October 14, 1918 - April 12, 2013
Donna Louise Bunton Caskey, 94, of Caldwell passed away Friday, April 12, 2013 at a Nampa care center of natural causes. A graveside service under the direction of Dakan Funeral Chapel will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, at Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell, with Reverend Jim Hardenbrook officiating.
Donna was the first of two daughters born to Oce W. and Francis Plumer Bunton in Rover, Missouri on October 14, 1918. The family moved to a fruit farm outside of Caldwell in 1924.
Following graduation from Caldwell High School, Donna attended Oregon State University and the College of Idaho.
After college, Donna and her younger sister, Dorothy, utilized their culinary arts skills by working for several years at the Owyhee Hotel, the Mode Tea Room, and the Arid Club.
Donna then fulfilled her ambition of being an elementary school teacher. She began by teaching in American Falls where she also worked for the war-time ration board. She then moved back home to the family farm in Caldwell, marrying Lewis Caskey in 1946. She continued her teaching career at Notus, then at Lincoln Elementary School in Caldwell where she taught third grade for thirty-four years.
Following retirement, Donna and Lewis spent many happy years traveling in their RV, often accompanied by Dorothy and her husband, Max Schlottmann. Donna and Dorothy loved these trips as opportunities to discover new places to shop and dine out.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Oce and Francis Bunton, her husband, Lewis, and her sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Max Schlottmann.
Donna's friends and family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Karcher Estates for the above-and-beyond care Donna received there and Harrison's Hope Hospice for the caring support they provided.
