Agnes O. Taugner Obituary

Agnes Ona Bradley Taugner

Born in Chicago Illinois on February 28, 1931, died in Indianapolis, Indiana on April 23, 2012. She was the daughter of Petrie Joan Bertolis Bradley and Raymond Lee Bradley.

Agnes contracted rheumatic fever as a child, but with the loving care of her family she was schooled at home as she recovered and then went on to college.

An accomplished artist, Ms. Taugner received her B.A. degree in fine arts in 1953 and her M.F.A. degree in 1963 at the University of Illinois. She was a professor of art at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama, teaching painting and drawing until she retired in 1993. Agnes was blessed with many lifelong friends and colleagues, and was an inspiration and mentor to many art students.

After her retirement, Agnes moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, and then to Gulf Breeze, Florida, where she continued her work as an artist. She enjoyed the beach, and was active in the "Save the Turtles" project. She always loved art, animals, plants, music, and literature. In 1999, Agnes moved to Indianapolis in order to be closer to her daughters.

Agnes is survived by her children, Stephanie Taugner and Julia Taugner and her son-in-law, Eric Nordgulen; as well as her brother, Walter D. Bradley and his wife, Mary Frances Bradley, of Silver Spring, Maryland; and her sister, Dorothy C. Bradley, of Jacksonville, Florida. Her brother, Stuart C. Bradley died in 1977. Agnes married Robert Thomas Taugner, a World War II veteran and artist, on June 7, 1952, in Chicago, Illinois. Although they divorced, they remained friends until his death in 1981.

Ms. Taugner's family extends special thanks to her loving caregivers at American Village senior community.
