Elizabeth J. Kennedy Obituary

Elizabeth J. "Bette" Kennedy

86, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on the starry, moonlit night of January 14, 2014 after a brief battle with cancer. Born Elizabeth Dawn Jurincic on January 27, 1927 in Gary, IN, to the late John P. and Mary R. Jurincic, Bette was the third of four lovely sisters. Bette graduated from Purdue University in 1950 and was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. She was married for over 60 years to her beloved husband E. Lee Kennedy, who preceded her in death.

She was a longtime member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Indianapolis, and many remember her for her always cheerful service to the Altar Guild, annual rummage sale, Episcopal Churchwomen, and her culinary efforts in the church kitchen for the many all-church dinners. Bette was named Churchwoman of the Year in 1983. During their retirement years, she & Lee joined and served as dedicated members of the Church of The Mediator in Harbert, MI, where they cherished their parish family. She served in St. Molly's Guild and the Altar Guild there.

Bette was a devoted wife and mother to her five children, which she proudly managed to produce in just three pregnancies. Her family admired and adored her for her love, devotion, and servanthood shown by her dedication to the PTO, Boy and Girl Scouts, Little League & Y sports, and church.

An avid gardener and bridge player, she shared lifelong friendships in the Nora Belles Garden Club and the Meadowbrook bridge group.

Bette is survived by her loving family; children, Karen Query, Thomas Kennedy (Charlene DuLong), Tamara Hardy (Duke), John Kennedy (Sally), Joan Miller (Pete); grandchildren, Matthew Query (Mary), Sarah Trammel (Andrew), Allison Query (fiancé Curtis Sattison), Benjamin Hardy, Thomas Hardy (Stella), Joseph Hardy, Christen Prible (Jay), Elizabeth Kennedy (Thomas), Clarann Kennedy, Abigail Miller, Laura Miller, and great-grandchildren, Madeline, Charlotte & Vivian Prible, and Kennedy Query (little brother on the way); sister, Dianne Stasco; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Vivian Jurincic and Marian Hicks.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 18, 2014, from 12:00 noon until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 6050 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory to St. Paul's Episcopal Church or Church of the Mediator, Harbert, MI.

Final care and arrangements are entrusted to Shirley Brothers.
