Harry A. Rose

91, of Indianapolis, IN, departed this life on Sunday, January 19, 2014. He was born on January 7, 1923 in Woodbury, NJ to the late Harry Albert and Blanche (Laub) Rose, Sr. Harry grew up near the Reading Railroad in Jenkintown, PA. As a child, he loved racing steam locomotives on his bike as they pulled away from the station and continued his lifelong passion for trains as a model rail roader.

Harry served his country in the United States Army during WWII as a field medic in the Philippines. He then earned his PhD in Chemistry from Penn State University and shortly there after, began work at Eli Lilly and Co. in 1950. While at Penn State, he met the love of his life, the late Ethel M. (Nace) Rose. They were married 54 years, until her death in 2004. Harry worked as an Analytical Research Chemist for Lilly's for 36 years and was the Department Head for many years. He retired in 1986. He shared his love of model railroading with his children and grandchildren. He was a longtime official and volunteer at the Miramar Swim Club often serving as the Starter at swim meets. He was an excellent Bridge partner. He appreciated music, and attended the Indianapolis Symphony. His taste in music ranged from Bach to the Limeliters. Harry had involved himself in his community as the President of the former Eastside Community Organization (now Community Heights Neighborhood Org.) for over ten years. He also served on the IMPD Civilian Police Complaint Review Board researching and hearing cases as well as participating in ride-alongs with IMPD officers on their beats.

Harry is survived by his loving children, Maria Rose, James R. (Barbara) Rose, Robert E. (Denice) Rose and John A. (Teresa) Rose; grandchildren, Lydia, Natalie, Sabrina, Andrea, Lindsey and Jeremy; great-grandchildren, Izayah, Elijah, Cori, Vincent, Janin, Randall and Kale.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 27th in Feeney-Hornak Shade land Mortuary . Burial follows in Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Little Flower Catholic Church.
