John V. Maloney

91, passed away on October 12, 2013. He was born April 22, 1922, the son of Stephen and Margaret King Maloney. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Ouida Taylor Maloney, his second wife, Joan Zigmunt Maloney, and his eight sisters and two brothers.

He started school in a one room schoolhouse containing eight grades and graduated from Brownsburg High School in 1940. He enrolled at Purdue University. At midterm in his sophomore year, Purdue went to a three semester per year wartime schedule. John and twelve other Electrical Engineering students enlisted in the Army Signal Corps in the radar training program and were put on inactive duty until graduation. Basic training was at Camp Crowder, Missouri, and Officer Candidate School was at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. After seven months at Harvard and MIT, John went to Luzon in the Philippine Islands.

John and Ouida Taylor were married in 1948 and began farming. They were active in several farm organizations including Pork Producers, Soybean Association, Corn Growers, and Farm Bureau. He was named a Master Farmer in 1978. John and Ouida were active in the International Farm Youth Exchange Program and hosted about 40 foreign guests over the years. Two foreign exchange students stayed with them for a school year. All five of their children had a foreign experience. John and Ouida traveled to several countries to visit these exchanges around the world. John was appointed to the first Board of Trustees of the Brownsburg Community School Corporation and was re-elected to three more terms. He was widowed in 1993.

John and Joan Zigmunt were married in 1997. They enjoyed traveling until she passed away in 1999. John was an active lifelong member of St. Malachy Catholic Church in Brownsburg.

He is survived by daughters, Kay Youngblood (Lynn), Teresa Brown (Kevin); sons, Jack (Rita), Joe (Molly), and Vince (Shirley); stepdaughter, Maria Zigmunt; seven grandchildren; five step grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Tues. Oct. 15 at Matthews Mortuary , Brownsburg. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wed. Oct. 16 at St. Malachy Church. Burial will be in St. Malachy Cemetery. Online guestbook at
