86, Logansport, a long time teacher and coach at Logansport High School, passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2014, in his residence.

He was born in Chicago, Illinois to Marion and Severino (Ben) Patacsil. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ronald.

Joe was blessed with a loving family. He is survived by wife Joyce, and five children: Ann (Pete) Cangany of Bermuda; Mandy Bates of Indianapolis, and Ted, Matt, and Frank (Deb) Patacsil of Logansport. Joe has nine grandchildren; Peter (Amy) Cangany, Bridget Cangany, First Lt. Hannah Cangany, Jake and Sam Patacsil, Evan (Emma) Bates, Collin Bates, Sam Starbuck, and Dom Patacsil. Liam Bates is Joe's great grandchild.

Joe was a graduate of Tilden Tech High School in Chicago where he was a state wrestling champion. He attended Purdue University and achieved a BS and MS. While at Purdue, Joe won the Big Ten wrestling championship twice and took top honors as an NCAA wrestling champion in 1950.

Joe served in the United States Air Force for four years.

Joe was the recipient of many honors including: Tilden Tech High School Hall of Fame; Illinois State Wrestling Hall of Fame; Indiana State Wrestling Hall of Fame; and Purdue Athletic Hall of Fame.

Joe had many interests and passions in life. A lifelong competitor, he enjoyed participating and coaching countless wrestling matches, coaching and golfing at Dykeman Park, and rounds of euchre, cribbage and poker at the family dinner table.

A native of Chicago, Joe loved Logansport and called it "paradise". He supported the local community by serving on the following Board of Directors of the Logansport YMCA, Logansport School Board, and Beacon Credit Union. Joe was also a member of the Elks, Knights of Columbus, Cass County Purdue Alumni Association, and All Saints Catholic Church. He worked with countless teens and young adults while coaching golf and wrestling. He started the wrestling program at Logansport High School where he taught and coached from 1957 to 1990.

The visitation will be at Kroeger Funeral Home , Logansport on Sunday, July 27, 2014, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, at All Saints Catholic Church, Logansport, with Father Michael McKinney officiating.

Burial, with full military honors will be in St. John's Cemetery, Logansport.
