Donald S. Cooper, 84

Donald S. Cooper, 84, of Lafayette, passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2012, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born November 20, 1928, in Lafayette, he was the son of the late John Raymond and Hazel Atherton Cooper. Donald was a 1947 graduate of Roosevelt High School and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Purdue University in 1951. He honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Alaska. He earned the rank of 2ndLieutenant.

Donald worked for Walter Scholar and Associates from 1953 until retiring in 1994 as Vice President of Structural Engineering.

Donald married Nancy L. Osborne on October 19, 1952, at the First Baptist Church in Lafayette, where he had been a member since 1951.

He was also a member of the Lafayette Exchange Club, Golden Broncho Club, Purdue Alumni Club President's Council, and the John Purdue Club. He enjoyed hiking, gardening, fishing, woodworking and attending Lafayette Jefferson High School ballgames, and most Purdue basketball and football games where he was a season ticket holder.

Surviving with his wife are his two daughters, Janet L. MacLagan (husband: Don) and Deborah A. Cooper, both of Lafayette; five grandchildren, Alanna Green (companion: James Campbell), James E. Green III (wife: Aubrey), Scott MacLagan, Pam Pivaronas and Debbie Zufan; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Wayne "Buddy" Cooper.

Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Funeral service 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church; Pastor Ryan Donaho and Pastor Carl Malmgren officiating.

Burial to follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church.
